Mechanical properties refer to the physical characteristics of a material that determine how it will behave under certain conditions of load, stress, and strain. These properties are critical in the design and manufacturing of various mechanical components that are used in diverse applications such as aerospace, automotive, construction, medical devices, and more. A material with good mechanical properties is capable of withstanding external forces without breaking down or deforming significantly, ensuring reliable operation and long service life.

One of the important mechanical properties is strength which is the ability of a material to withstand external forces without failing. High-strength materials are used in structural applications where safety and load-bearing capacity are crucial. Another important property is stiffness, which is the ability of a material to resist deformation under load. This property is essential in applications where tight tolerances and precision are needed. Toughness, on the other hand, is the ability of a material to absorb energy without breaking, and is critical in applications where impact resistance is required.

Mechanical properties also include elasticity, ductility, and hardness. Elasticity is the property of a material to return to its original shape after deformation. Ductility is the ability to deform under stress without breaking and can be an important property in manufacturing processes. Hardness is the resistance of a material to deformation or scratching and is an essential property in various cutting and drilling applications.
